Dear BOINC Games Community,
As many of you are aware, we've experienced significant technical difficulties with the Einstein@Home sprint. Their servers blocked our automated stats collection system, preventing us from updating sprint standings properly.
What Happened:
- Einstein@Home began blocking our server's IP address several days into the sprint
- We attempted multiple workarounds (development server, alternate connections) but these were also blocked
- Stats have not updated reliably for the latter portion of the sprint
- The final hours of the sprint had no updates whatsoever
- Some participants likely earned significant credits that are not reflected in the standings
We have incomplete data that doesn't accurately represent everyone's contributions. Some users who worked hard during the stats outage have credits that will never be counted, while others may have an unfair advantage simply due to when they earned their credits.
We need the community to decide how to proceed:
Option 1: Cancel/Void the Sprint
- No winners would be declared
- The sprint would be removed from our records
- This ensures fairness since we cannot verify all contributions
Option 2: Accept Final Standings As-Is
- Winners would be based on the last available data
- We acknowledge that some credits weren't counted
Please vote in the poll above. Every registered BOINC Games participant's opinion matters in this decision.
I sincerely apologize for how this sprint concluded. We are already working on implementing safeguards to prevent similar issues in future sprints, including better communication with project administrators and fallback stats collection methods.
The poll will remain open for 168 hours (1 week) to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
